UN 38.3

The first number describes the protection against solid foreign bodies, e.g. dust or contact. It ranges from 0 (no protection) to 6 (completely dustproof). The second number indicates the protection against water and ranges from 0 (no protection) to 9 (protected against high-pressure water at a certain temperature). For example, protection class IP67 means that the product is fully protected against dust (6) and is also resistant to temporary immersion in water (7). Products with an IPX7 rating would be specifically protected against water, but without any indication of protection against solid foreign bodies. For our customers, the IP protection class therefore indicates whether and how a product is suitable for certain conditions, such as use in wet environments or intensive contact with dust.
