Most of the time it works just like the instructions say, and you can actually turn off one or both or the other without turning off the whole she-bang, but you have to read the instructions to learn how. It's not intuitive to learn how to use. That said, I had it get stuck on the lowest e-stim and vibe setting once, but it was mild enough to be more of a hilarious situation than truly uncomfortable, don't know what happened to cause it because it never happened again.
